There is no feature-length animated film in Ghana’s history for Kwesi Larbi to point to as a reference. He has spent four years building one anyway, mostly from a spare room, mostly alone.

Building the pipeline before building the film

Before he could animate a single scene, Larbi had to build the tools to do it — a rendering pipeline suited to the budget of one person, not a studio. “The film is four years old. The software underneath it is four years old too. I built both at the same time.”

There was no one to call when it broke. I had to become the person you’d call.
